How do I set up formative statements for the Early Years curriculum after 2021 ?

 

The Department for Education (DfE) stance is that in order to simplify EYFS data recording, there ought to be no need for the use of formative statements. The Simple Assessment module does not connect with the area in ScholarPack that hosts the formative statements, and is only used to record summative data. Many schools value using formative statements, therefore it is possible to set up an assessment class in Admin > Classes in order to create a markbook to record student progress via the statements.  

In Admin > Classes, on the Create Class tab, select the year group (e.g. Reception), the Group (usually the form name), and the Subject needs to be Development Matters 2021. Click 'Add New Class' to create the markbook.

Next you will need to assign the students to the class, which is actioned on the second tab: Add Students to Class.

Tick the year group and the form for this class, then tick against the Assessment Class Name (e.g. 0 PAR DM2 in the example above). Tick 'Check All' against the student names to ensure all are added to this class, then 'Save Classes'. 

On the next tab you are required to Add Teachers to Class, and any staff selected here will be able to view and add data to the markbook via My Subjects

From the Teacher's drop-down, select the teacher's name, and from the Year drop-down select the year group for this class. Tick against the class so it assigns the teacher to that class. You can apply as many teachers as you wish to a class. They will then be able to see the markbook under My Subjects.

Here you can select the component you wish to record, the checkpoint you're entering data at, then click 'Choose' in order to see the student names with each list of statements.

To report on the statements you will need to go to Reporting > Assessment >Form and use the Green Formative reports.
