How can we record Covid illness absence, and report on it, in the 2022-23 academic year?

From September 2022 the COVID-19 subcategory codes for not attending due to COVID-19 were removed. After this date, the only X code to be used is for 'not required to be in school' for non statutory school age (under 5 years). See Registration Codes for the current statutory attendance codes.

If a student is absent from school due to illness, and after testing positive for COVID-19, this absence is to be recorded as I (illness -not appointments). You may wish to add an attendance note in this circumstance so that you can report on which students were off school illness due to COVID-19.

If you wish to generate such a report, go to Reporting > Custom Report > New Report.  Enter the dates you are looking at, then on the Filters (left side) Attendance Tab select the I code, and on the Display Columns (right side) Attendance Tab, select Attendance Notes.  Click Run Report at the base of the page to generate the report. You will not obtain specific dates for the COVID-19 absence, but this will identify students who are absent with the I code in the date range selected, and contain an Attendance Notes column you can filter for COVID-19. The absence dates can be obtained from their student profile's attendance tab (Attendance Notes area).

This report will identify individual students who are absent with the I code in the date range selected, and contain an Attendance Notes column you can filter for COVID-19. This will provide the number of students affected by COVID-19 absence. The dates for COVID-19 absence can be obtained from their student profile's attendance tab.
