Record a student as eligible for Universal Free School Meals (UFSM)

All students in years Reception (Year 0), Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a Universal Free School Meal (UFSM). This does not depend on household income or whether the household receives any benefits, every child in these year groups is eligible to take up the offer.

Once a student is assigned to an eligible year group on their extended tab, further down on this tab (under Further Information) they are automatically marked as UFSM.

If you use the Meals module in ScholarPack, any meal assigned to the student will therefore be a free meal (even if the meal has a cost against it for other year groups).

You can view this on the front of the student profile, on the left side.

The student Census collects data on the number of students who have a UFSM on census day, in years 0, 1 and 2.

The Census also collects information on students who are Free School Meals (FSM) on economic grounds, as they are also Pupil Premium students.

A student may come under both categories and it is important to record any FSM entitlement on the extended tab if your local authority notifies you they quality on economic grounds, as the school receives funding on this basis.

Click on Manage and enter the date provided to you as the start date for their economic based FSM entitlement.

Any student with an open period for Free School Meals will have the F and P aspects applied to them to indicate they are FSM and Pupil Premium.
